A Stand of Aspens: Reflections on Standing Together

Each aspen tree is part of a lager organism, connected to the rest of the stand by an extensive root system. Much like a family or an acequia, what harms one member impacts the whole. And much like a healthy family or acequia, the resilience of the collective can protect and heal individual members. As these trees light up patches of the Sangre de Cristos and Sandias, what can they teach us about how to be human? More importantly, what can they teach us about how to address the challenges of climate change and political division? How can we stand together when it is most important?

  1. Unfortunately, I was unable to take your class at the Harwood! I was hoping you’d be doing something else soon here in Albuquerque. Do you have anything planned?

    Thank you!

    • Tina, my next teaching gig is at the Taos Writers’ Conference in July. The link is on my Upcoming Events page.
I’ll also most likely be teaching at the Harwood in the fall.
I’ll post readings and workshops as they are confirmed on my Events page, so if you’ve subscribed to “Vessel,” you’ll be notified each time something new appears.
      Peace,
      Michelle
